President holds meeting on forming interim govt
President Mohammed Shahabuddin convened a meeting at Bangabhaban aimed at forming an interim government following the exit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The meeting was attended by the chiefs of the army, navy, and air force, along with leaders from various political parties and representatives of civil society.
The meeting emphasized the need for patience and tolerance in maintaining law and order across the country. Strict measures were decided upon to prevent the army from engaging in any looting or violent activities.
One of the key decisions was the immediate release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. It was also agreed to release all prisoners detained in connection with the anti-discrimination movement and other recent cases.
During the meeting, a condolence resolution was adopted in memory of those who lost their lives in the anti-quota movement, and prayers were offered for the peace of their departed souls.
Attendees included BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader, and leaders Mojibul Haque Chunnu and Anisul Islam. Also present were Mahmudur Rahman Manna of Nagorika Oikya, Hefajat Islam leaders Mamunul Haque, Mufti Monir Qasemi, and Mahabubur Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and leader Sheikh Md. Masood, Major General Fazle Rabbi (Retd), Shamim Haider of Zaker Party, Maulana Jalal Uddin Ahmad of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Zonaid Saki of Ganasanghati Andolan, Advocate Golam Sarwar Jewel of Gana Adhikar Parishad, Dhaka University teacher Asif Nazrul, Firoz Ahmad, and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinators Abdullah Al Hossain, Arif Talukder, Omar Farooq, Mobashwera Karim Mimi, and Engineer Md. Anisur Rahman.
