Students to march towards Dhaka on Aug 5

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, born out of the quota reform protests, has announced a march towards Dhaka on August 5 to press home its one-point demand, resignation of the government.

Besides, they will hold women’s rally and workers’ rally across the country on the day to make the people aware of their demands.   

Nahid Islam, one of the coordinators of the movement, through a notice sent to the media on announced the fresh programme as part of their ongoing non-cooperation movement.

The notice outlined that, in support of the non-cooperation movement, Martyrs' Memorial Plaques will be unveiled across the country on Monday.

Additionally, there will be a labor rally at Shahbagh at 11:00am and a women's rally at the same location at 5:00pm. Protests and sit-in programmes are also planned nationwide.

On Tuesday (August 6), the students will lead a Long March to Dhaka, calling on students, citizens, workers, and professionals from all over the country to join them. The march will culminate in a mass rally at Shahbagh at 2:00pm the same day.

The movement has also urged the formation of student-led struggle committees in neighborhoods, villages, upazilas, and districts. The leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have called on students and citizens to sustain the movement until the government resigns, urging persistence even in the face of potential internet shutdowns and crackdowns.
