Security tightened around ministers’ residences
Security has been significantly heightened around Minto Road in the capital, home to several ministers and the Inspector General of Police, following the arson of a police box near Hotel InterContinental Dhaka.
On Sunday (August 4), police bolstered the security system starting from noon. A police barricade has been set up on Minto Road, and no vehicles are being allowed to enter.
Officer-in-Charge of Ramna Police Station, Utpal Barua, who was on the scene, said that sufficient police forces have been deployed on Minto Road to ensure security. Steps have been taken to prevent protesters from reaching the area.
On the ground, it was observed that around 12:47 PM, protesters began moving toward Minto Road after crossing Hotel InterContinental from Shahbagh. In response, the police deployed several rounds of sound grenades in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
