Protesters occupy Shahbagh

Protesters have occupied the Shahbagh intersection, blocking it to press for their one-point demand - the resignation of the government.

The demonstrators began gathering at Shahbagh from 10:00am on Sunday (August 4), arriving in both small and large processions.

Shortly before 11:00am, when some leaders and activists of the pro-government Bangladesh Chhatra League arrived at Shahbagh, the protesters chased them, prompting them to take shelter inside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. They eventually left the area.

Earlier in the day, some members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) stationed in the Dhaka University area were attacked by protesters from a procession. Several officers were injured, but they were later released after receiving treatment.
