Two killed in Shariatpur trawler capsize

Two people were killed and three others went missing in a trawler capsize in the Meghna River in Gosairhat upazila of Shariatpur on Friday morning.

Quoting locals, Gosairhat police station officer-in-charge, Pushpen Debnath, said a trawler carrying 11 passengers sank in Majherchar area under Kodalpur union around 10:30am due to bad weather conditions.

Later, eight people were rescued and taken them to Gosairhat Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared two dead, he said, adding that three others went missing in the incident.

Fire Service and police personnel are working to rescue the missing people, the OC added.
