Ex-BracU teacher Asif, JU student Arif on 6-day remand

A Dhaka court on Monday put former BRAC University teacher Asif Mahtab Utsha and Jahangirnagar University student Arif Sohel on a six-day remand in a case over the attack on Setu Bhaban.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mainul Islam passed the order after a hearing.

Earlier, police produced them before the court and sought a 10-day remand against them while their lawyers prayed for bail.

The case statement said during the recent quota reform protests, 250/300 unidentified people equipped with locally made weapons, sticks and brickbats stormed into Setu Bhaban at Banani on July 18 and carried out vandalism and arson attack there.

They also beat up office staff and security guards there, according to the case documents.

Later, Rabiul Islam, caretaker of the building, lodged the case with Banani Police Station.
