Gazipur woman gets death for killing husband

A Gazipur court on Monday awarded the death penalty to a woman for murdering her husband in 2015.

The condemned convict was identified as Habiba Begum, 33, wife of Jakir Hossain of Kaliganj municipal area in Kaliakoir upazila and daughter of late Habibur Rahman Hawladar of Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj district.

The court also fined her Tk 10,000.

According to the prosecution, Habiba slit the throat of her husband Jakir with a sharp weapon following a family feud while he was asleep at his house on May 18, 2015.

Police arrested Habiba while fleeing with the help of local people on the day.

Mobarak Hossain, brother of the victim, filed a case with Kaliakoir Police Station.

After examining the records and witnesses District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haq handed down the verdict.
