Dhaka-Kolkata rail link to remain snapped
The cross-border rail connectivity between India and Bangladesh seems to remain suspended further despite somewhat improvement in the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh.
The Maitri Express, a popular choice for travelers between Kolkata and Dhaka, continues to be suspended. Additionally, the Bandhan Express and the New Jalpaiguri-Dhaka Mithali Express remain out of service.
The suspension of train services has significantly impacted travel between the two countries, particularly for Bangladeshi citizens seeking medical treatment in Kolkata. The Maitri Express is a vital transportation link for these passengers.
Indian Railways had initially planned to resume Maitri Express services on Saturday, July 27th, but this has been postponed.
Indian Eastern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Kaushik Mitra said according to a message received from Bangladesh Railway, 13108 Kolkata-Dhaka Maitri Express was scheduled to leave Kolkata on Saturday (July 27) and 13110 Dhaka-Kolkata Maitri Express was scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on Saturday (July 27) but it has been postponed.
There is currently no confirmed date for the resumption of train operations.
Passengers affected by the cancellations can claim full refunds for their tickets at designated counters in Kolkata.
However, it is essential to note that no refunds will be provided for lost or misplaced tickets.
The situation remains fluid, and authorities on both sides of the border are closely monitoring the situation. Updates on the resumption of train services will be provided as they become available.
