The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested a member of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam, who escaped from Narsingdi District Jail, in Narayanganj.

RAB apprehended Md Faruque Ahmed, 43, a resident of Nuralapur in Madhabdi of Narsingdi, from Premerbazar area of Sonargaon upazila.

Tanvir Mahmud Pasha, commanding officer of RAB-11, informed this in a press conference at its headquarter on Thursday afternoon.

He said RAB earlier arrested Faruque on March 24, 2022, for his involvement in militant acts and since then, he was confined at Narsingdi District Jail.

Tanvir Mahmud said during the recent quota reform movement, thousands of people stormed into the prison breaking the gate. At that time, 826 prisoners, including nine militants, fled.
