Over 1,600 arrested across country
The law enforcement agencies have continued their drives to arrest those involved with the violent activities during the quota reform movement.
A total of 1,630 people, including the leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat, were so far arrested across the country. Of them, 601 were arrested in the last 24 hours.
Police sources said a total of 1,630 people were arrested in 133 cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka from July 12 to July 23. Of them, 1,117 were arrested in the last few days.
KN Roy Niyoti, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said 601 people were arrested in Dhaka in the last 24 hours. A total of 38 cases were filed against them with different police station in the last two days.
A Police Headquarters source said three police members were killed and 1,117 others injured in a week of violence. A total of 281 police vehicles were vandalized and set on fire across the country including Dhaka. Apart from this, 253 police stations and outposts were also vandalized and torched.
However, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four people in connection with the violence in different places of the country including Dhaka’s Mirpur and Rampura. They were arrested from Mirpur and Badda.
Lt. Col. Md Muneem Ferdous, Director of RAB’s Legal and Medica Wing, confirmed the information at the elite force’s media centre in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Tuesday.
