US closely watching Dhaka violence
The United States has said it has been watching and monitoring the violence that broke out during the student protests in Dhaka very closely and it condemns any violence against peaceful protests.
At a press briefing in Washington DC, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller on July 17 said,” We condemn any violence against peaceful protests. We’ve been watching this matter very closely both from our embassy and officials here in Washington have been monitoring the protests, have seen the reports of people dying, being killed in the protests.”
“We, again, call on the government to uphold individuals’ rights to protest peacefully,” he said calling on the protesters to remain peaceful.
“We continue to monitor the violence that broke out during the student protests in Dhaka and continue to urge that protests be peaceful and continue to condemn any violence against peaceful protests,” added Miller.
