Protesters declare nationwide 'complete shutdown'

Following the Prime Minister's address to the nation, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the platform that waged movement seeking quota reform in government jobs, has declared a nationwide 'complete shutdown' for Thursday (July 18).

The decision, announced immediately after the prime minister's speech, aims to protest recent attacks on quota reform activists. The announcement was posted on the movement's Facebook page on Wednesday (July 17) at 7:55pm.

In their statement, the movement declared, "We are calling for a 'Complete Shutdown' on July 18 across the country to protest the brutal attacks by police, BGB, RAB, and SWAT on quota reform demonstrators. We demand justice for the victims, prosecution of the perpetrators, and a campus free from fear. Our focus is on our single-point demand."

"All institutions except hospitals and emergency services will remain closed, and only ambulances will be allowed on the roads. We urge students from schools, colleges, universities, private universities, and madrasas nationwide to participate actively to make tomorrow's programme a success."

The statement continued, addressing guardians, "We are your children. Stand with us, protect us. This struggle is not just for students but for all citizens of our country, regardless of political affiliation."
