Protesters break police barricade at Shahbagh

Breaking through the police barricade, agitating students from different public universities got mobilised at Shabagh intersection in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.

They gathered there around 4 pm as part of the nationwide 'Bangla Blockade' and at one stage broke through human shield of riot-geared police. They were also seen climbing up onto armoured personnel vehicle and the water cannons deployed there.

Police surrounded them from three sides and a tensed situation prevails there while filing of this report at about 5:15 pm.

Students have been protesting in the capital and different parts of the country for several days to demand the reformation of the quota system in the government jobs.
