The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against seven people, including Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, former director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), and Sabrina Sharmin Hussain, former doctor of the National Institute of CardioVascular Diseases (NICVD).

ACC assistant director Afnan Zannat Keya lodged the case at the commission's Dhaka coordinated office-1 on Wednesday on charge of embezzling around Tk 1 crore by issuing fake coronavirus certificates in 2020.

Five other accused in the lawsuit are JKG Health Care's managing director Ariful Chowdhury, propreitor Zebunnesa Rima, officials ASM Sayeed Chowdhury, Humayun Kabir alias Himu, and Tanzina Patwari.

The case statement said Dr Sabrina helped JKG Health Care, which had no registration and trade license, get permission to collect sample of Covid-19 and issue fake coronavirus certificates in association with then DGHS DG Prof Abul Kalam Azad and others.

About Prof Abul Kalam Azad, the statement said he misused his power to allow JKG Health Care for Covid-19 sample collection.
