Question leak: 10 including 3 PSC officials land in jail
A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent two deputy directors and an assistant director of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) to jail, along with seven others, in a case filed over the leak of question papers for the Bangladesh Civil Service examination.
The jailed PSC staff members are: deputy directors Md Abu Zafar and Md Jahangir Alam, and assistant director Md. Alamgir Kabir.
Earlier in the day, police produced them before the court and requested that they be kept in jail until the investigation of the case is over. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque ordered their detention.
The other accused sent to jail are: Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, son of Syed Abed Ali, chauffeur of a former PSC chairman, ex-army member Noman Siddiqui, aditor Priyanath Roy, businessman Md. Zahidul Islam, Narayanganj Passport Office security guard Shahadat Hossain, Dhaka Immigration and Passport Office staffer Md Mamunur Rashid and Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital medical technician Niamun Hasan.
Meanwhile, seven people, including Abed Ali, accepted responsibility and agreed to give statements. CID Additional Special Superintendent of Police Jewel Chakma requested that their statements be recorded. The Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka is recording their statements.
The seven testifying individuals are: Syed Abed Ali, former chauffer of a PSC chairman, office assistant Khalilur Rahman, office assistant (Dispatch) Sajedul Islam, former DU student and current Mirpur businessman Md Abu Solaiman Sohel, businessman brothers Sakhawat Hossain and Sayem Hossain, and unemployed youth Liton Sarkar.
Earlier, on Sunday night, Syed Abed Ali's Facebook posts went viral after an investigative report against the PSC was published on a private television channel.
Following this, a case was filed under the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Act with Paltan Police Station on Monday night, with 17 people being arrested.
The arrested include: deputy directors Md. Abu Zafar and Md. Jahangir Alam, assistant directors Md Alamgir Kabir and Md Shamsul Alam, office assistant Khalilur Rahman, office assistant (dispatch) Sajedul Islam, former DU student and current Mirpur businessman Md. Abu Solaiman Sohel, auditor Priyanath Roy, businessman Md. Zahidul Islam, Narayanganj Passport Office security guard Shahadat Hossain, Dhaka Immigration and Passport Office staffer Md. Mamunur Rashid, Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital medical technician Niamun Hasan, businessman brothers Sakhawat Hossain and Sayem Hossain, and unemployed youth Liton Sarkar.
