Six ministers and state ministers sat a meeting on Monday to assess the widespread student agitation against quotas in government jobs and the commotion among public university teachers over the new pension scheme.

The meeting began behind closed doors at the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, State Minister for Education Samsunnahar Champa, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Romana Ali, and State Minister for Information Mohammad Ali Arafat are attending the meeting that began following a press conference by the Awami League general secretary.

The students' demonstrations have spread across the country, disrupting normal life. In the capital, Dhaka, road blockades by students have brought the city to a standstill.
