Amjad Khan Chowdhury’s death anniversary today
Today marks the death anniversary of Major General (Retd) Amjad Khan Chowdhury, a pioneer in Bangladesh's agricultural products processing industry and the founder of the PRAN-RFL Group. He passed away on this day in 2015 while receiving treatment in a US hospital.
On the occasion of his death anniversary, a special doa mahfil has been organised at Pran Center today at 5 pm.
Born on November 10, 1939, to Ali Kashem Khan Chowdhury and Amatur Rahman in Natore, Amjad Khan Chowdhury began his education at Nabakumar Institute in Dhaka.
He joined the Pakistan Army in 1956 and later graduated from the Australian Staff College. Throughout his military career, he held various significant positions and retired as a Major General from the Bangladesh Army in 1981.
Amjad Khan Chowdhury is survived by his four children: Azar Khan Chowdhury, Dr. Sera Haque, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, and Uzma Chowdhury, all of whom have found success in their respective fields.
After his retirement from the army, he founded the PRAN-RFL Group by establishing Rangpur Foundry Limited (RFL). Today, PRAN-RFL Group stands as the leading manufacturer of food and household products in Bangladesh, employing approximately 1,45,000 officers and employees. The group's products are exported to 145 countries worldwide.
Amjad Khan Chowdhury also served as president and director of various organisations, including the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCL). He founded the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), the Bangladesh Agro Processors Association (BAPA), and the Underprivileged Children's Education Program (USEP).
His contributions to the private sector, particularly in establishing businesses and creating employment opportunities, have been pivotal. He is celebrated as a leading figure in the multipurpose use of agriculture and agricultural products, driving economic prosperity through the industry. His impact on the social and cultural fields, as well as his efforts in economic development, have brought significant prosperity to Bangladesh's business sector.
