Flood affects 20 lakh people in 15 districts: State Minister

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohibbur Rahman has said around 20 lakh people have been affected by the ongoing flood in 15 districts of the country. 

The State Minister on Saturday said this at a press conference on the flood situation due to heavy rainfall and onrush of upstream water.

He said Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrakona, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Rangpur, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Feni, Rangamati, Bogura, Kurigram, Sirajganj, Lalmonirhat and Cox’s Bazar were affected by the flood.  

He said Tk 3.10 crore in cash, 8,700 tons of relief rice, 58,500 bags of dry and other food and Tk 60 lakh for buying baby food have so far been allocated in the 15 flood affected districts.

“A total of 36,223 people have taken refuge in our flood shelter centres so far,” the state minister said adding that around 20 lakh people have been affected by the flood as per information given by the district administrations.  

He also said another flood is likely to occur in August or September. We are taking preparations for the next flood in the direction of the Prime Minister. 

Mohibur said he will go to Tangail and Sirajganj on Sunday to visit the flood situation.
