A court in Dhaka has ordered to confiscate assets of former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman and his family members.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohamad Joglul Hossain on Thursday passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC lawyer Mir Ahmmed Salam confirmed the matter.

The assets include 114 decimals (69 khata) of land in Matiur’s name, 522.52 decimals of land in Laila Kaniz’s name, and 275.85 decimals of land in the name of his son, Ahmmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab.

Apart from this, there is a five-katha plot in Bashundhara registered in the name of Matiur’s daughter Farzana Rahman Ipsita, and another five-katha plot registered in the name of Shammi Akhtar Shibli.

Earlier on June 23, Matiur, who was the president of the NBR’s Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal, was transferred to the Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Finance Ministry following the recent controversy over his illegal wealth.

On June 24, a court in Dhaka imposed an overseas travel ban on Matiur, his first wife Laila Kaniz, and their son Ahmed Toufiqur Rahman Arnab.

A source in NBR earlier said Matiur left the country through Akhaura land port on June 23.

Matiur recently came to limelight after his son from his second marriage attempted to purchase a goat for Tk12 lakh ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
