Two killed as truck hits van in Barishal

Two people were killed as a truck hit a battery-run van in Gournadi upazila of Barishal on Monday morning.

The dead were identified as fish trader Barun Das, 55, a resident of Sakokathi village in the upazila, and the van driver, Aynal Bepari, 60, of Agarpur village in Babuganj upazila.

Gournadi Highway Police Station officer in-charge Golam Rasul Molla said a speeding truck hit a battery-run van in Batajor Baiskhola area, leaving a passenger and the driver of the latter vehicle dead on the spot.

However, police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee, he said, adding that preparations are underway to file a case in this connection.
