Nine killed as microbus, auto-rickshaw plunge into canal

Nine people were killed as two vehicles carrying a bridal party plunged into a canal after a bridge collapse in Amtali upazila of Barguna on Saturday afternoon.

Asaduzzaman Mintu Mollick, chairman of Haldia union parishad, said a microbus and an auto-rickshaw carrying a bridal party fell into a canal after a bridge adjacent to Haldia Bazar collapsed around 2 pm.

The passengers of the auto-rickshaw managed to come out from it but the ones of the microbus couldn't, he said.

However, locals and Fire Service personnel recovered nine bodies from the spot when the report was filed.

Md Hanif, officer of Fire Service Amtali Station, said they recovered nine bodies from the scene and efforts are underway to recover the microbus from the canal.
