Man, pregnant wife killed in Cox's Bazar landslide
A man and his pregnant wife were killed in a landslide in Cox's Bazar district town early Friday.
The dead were identified as Md Anwar Hossain, 23, and his wife Maimuna Akter, 18, who was five months pregnant. Anwar was the Muazzin at local Omar Faruk Jame Masjid.
The incident occurred in Badshaghona-Khajamanzil area under 9 no. ward around 3:30 am, local ward councilor Helal Uddin confirmed this morning.
Quoting Anwar's uncle Abdullah, neighbor Saymon Amin said a heavy rain started around 3 am, and at one point, a big chunk of soil from a hill fell on their house and both husband and wife were buried under it.
Later, locals rescued them and took them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared the couple dead, Saymon added.
The hospital's resident medical officer (RMO) Dr Ashiqur Rahman said two people buried under soil were brought dead to the facility and the bodies were kept at the morgue.
