MP Anar murder: Bones recovered from Bagjola canal in Kolkata
Kolkata’s CID on Sunday conducted searches in Bagjola canal near Krishanamati Bridge in the city to recover the body parts of Bangladeshi lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar who was killed and dismembered at a flat in Sanjeeva Gardens in Kolkata’s New Town area on May 13.
They recovered some bones from the canal but it is not certain whether the bones belong to the lawmaker.
The CID officials along with Siam, who was arrested in the connection with murder of the lawmaker, went to the spot and started the search operation in the canal. A three-member team of Indian navy and Disaster Response Force members were also present during this time.
Earlier on Friday, West Bengal’s CID arrested Siam from Bongaon area at North 24 Porgonas. The CID members interrogated him throughout the night on Saturday. During interrogation, Siam gave some information to the CID.
On May 28, Kolkata police found 4 kg of flesh in the septic tank of Sanjeeva Gardens where the lawmaker was killed. The cops sent the flesh for forensic test to ascertain if it is of the MP.
On May 12, Anar went to India for treatment. His family couldn’t communicate with him by any means two days after the lawmaker’s reaching Kolkata.
Later, his family members informed Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
Subsequently, Bangladesh Police communicated with Indian Police, and the Indian Police confirmed that Anar was murdered in Kolkata.
On May 22, Anar’s daughter Mumtahin Ferdous Dorin filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital.
The next day, police arrested - Syed Amanullah alias Shimul Bhuiyan, Faisal Ali alias Tanvir Bhuiyan and Shilasti Rahman for having connection with the murder.
The trio was remanded in two phases for eight and five days, each, on May 24 and May 31.
