2 killed as pickup van hits truck in Gazipur

Two people were killed and another was injured when a pickup van hit a truck in Gazipur early Sunday.

The accident took place on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Jainabazar area in Sreepur upazila around 4am. 

The deceased were identified as Chanchal Roy, 30, the pickup van driver and son of Natesh Roy, of Alipur village at Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj and Ripon, 35, son of Siddiq Hawladar of Mehendiganj upazila in Barishal. 

The injured is Mamun. 

Sreepur Fire Service Station Officer Belal Ahmed said a pickup van was heading towards Mymensingh from Dhaka. When the pickup van reached Jainabazar area, it crashed into a truck from behind, leaving one person dead on the spot and injured two others. The injured were rushed to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex where the doctors on duty declared one of them dead. 

Sheikh Mahbub Morshed, Officer-in-charge of Mawna Highway Police Station, said two people were killed in a collision between a pickup van and an unidentified vehicle. The bodies of the deceased are in police custody. Legal action will be taken in this regard.
