World Milk Day today
World Milk Day is being observed across the country on Saturday in a befitting manner.
The day is celebrated to bring the importance of milk as a global food to the forefront and to promote dairy farming and the dairy industry. World Milk Day, established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, has been observed across the world since its inception in 2001.
The Department of Livestock Services has taken elaborate programmes to observe the day in cooperation with Livestock and Dairy Development Project.
Besides, some dairy companies are also observing the day with different programmes.
As a part of the central programme, students from class one to five were provided free milk at 11 school in Dhaka at 9am. Milk Vita, Pran Dairy, Brac Dairy, Akij Dairy and Rangpur Dairy gave support in the event.
Marking the day, a colorful rally was brought out from Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) at Khamarbari in the capital around 9:30am.
A programme will also be held at KIB auditorium where Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdur Rahman will present as a chief guest. A total of 51 entrepreneurs will be awarded as Daily Icon-2023 award. They will receive cash, crest and certificate.
Apart from, a Dairy Exhibition and Cheese Festival will be held at KIB Convention Hall.
