The Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has decided to raise the price of water by 10% from July 1.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, it said that water prices have been increased as per the section 22 of the WASA Act 1996 to adjust for inflation.

The Dhaka Wasa fixed Tk16.70 for each unit (1,000 litres) of water for residential users. The existing rate is Tk15.18. It increased the commercial rate to Tk46.20 from the existing Tk42.

This decision will also be effective in the case of unmetered holdings, deep tube wells, buildings under construction and all types of (water and sewage) charges including minimum bills, said the notification.

The WASA increased prices for the last time by 5 percent on May 25, 2021.
