MP Anar’s body not recovered: Kolkata police

The body of ruling Awami League lawmaker from Jhenaidah-1 constituency Anwarul Azim Anar, who was murdered in India, has not been recovered yet. 

Akhilesh Chaturvedi, IGP of CID West Bengal of India, on Wednesday told this to the reporters after coming out of Sanjiba Gardens in Kolkata’s New Town where the lawmaker was killed. 

He said Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim went missing after coming here for a personal visit. A general diary was filed with Barrackpore police commissionerate on May 18 over his missing. We started the investigation as per the GD filed by his familiar Gopal Bishwas.

The Indian police officer said a special investigation team was formed by Barrackpore Police Commissionerate over the incident. Later, a direction came from India’s foreign ministry to investigate the matter with importance. Today, we got an information that the lawmaker might have been murdered. Later, police identified the flat as he was last seen there. 

In a reply to a question, he said the body has not been recovered yet. We have started the investigation into the case. As per our information, the lawmaker entered the building on May 13. Some other people were with him at that time.

He also said the flat where the lawmaker stayed belongs to a man named Sandip Roy. He works at excise department of West Bengal government. He rented out the flat to man named Akhtaruzzaman, a Bangladeshi expatriate in the USA.
