Mother, son among 3 killed in lightning strikes

Three people, including a woman and her son, were killed and two others injured in lightning strikes in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Sharifa Begum, 50, wife of Kamal Mia, a resident of Alokbali area, and their son Iqbal Mia, 12, and Kaiyum Ali, 22, of the neighboring village in the upazila.

Police and local sources said Kamal Mia, his wife Sharifa, and his son Iqbal, and Kaiyum and some other people were working in a paddy field in Alokbali area around 12:30 pm when thunderbolts hit them, leaving five injured.

Among the injured, three died on the way to hospital and two are being treated at Sadar Hospital.

Narsingdi Model Police Station officer in-charge Tanvir Ahmed said three people were killed in lightning strikes and injured two are being given treatment at Sadar Hospital.
