Two get death for murder in Rajshahi

A court in Rajshahi on Wednesday sentenced two people to death and awarded another three years in jail for the murder of a shop worker in Bagha upazila.

The condemned convicts are Masud Rana, 26, from Balitita Islampur village, and Aminul Islam alias Shawon, from Kazipara village in Lalpur upazila of Natore while jailed Mehedi Hasan alias Rafique, 23, is a resident of Zotkadirpur village in Bagha upazila. 

The Speedy Trial Tribunal, Rajshahi Judge Md Mohiduzzaman delivered the verdict this afternoon, prosecution lawyer Entazul Haque Babu confirmed.

The case statement said Zahurul Islam, a mobile shop worker, was found dead in Tethulia Shikderpara village of Bagha upazila on January 6, 2021.

His motorcycle and helmet were lying on the ground beside the body but some mobile handsets taken from the shop for sale were not found there.

Later, his brother filed a case against unknown people with Bagha Police Station in this connection.

After the case filing, police arrested Masud and Shawon who told the law enforcers that they bought three mobile phones from Zahurul for use on credit and were dilly-dallying to pay back the money.

To get back the money, Zahurul would pressure them but they could not collect money to pay and that is why, they planned to kill him.

As part of the plan, they hacked him to death on January 5, 2021, and took 28 mobile phones and cash Tk 25,000 from him.
