A Dhaka court has sentenced Tithi Sarkar, a temporarily-suspended student of Jagannath University (JnU), to five years in jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Julfiqer Hayat passed the order on Monday.

The case was filed against Tithi, her husband Shiplu Mollik and some other people with Paltan Police Station in Dhaka on November 2, 2020.

The investigation officer of the case and Sub Inspector of the CID police Mehedi Hasan submitted a charge sheet against two people to the court on May 19, 2021.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Assams Jaglul Hossain framed charge against Tithi and exempted her husband from the case on November 4 that year.
