Voting ends in 1st phase upazila polls

Voting in the first phase of the sixth upazila parishad elections has ended without any major incidents of violence.

The balloting started at 8 am in 139 upazilas of the country and continued to 4 pm without any break. 

There are 1,635 candidates in the first phase polls. Among them, 570 are contesting for chairman, 625 for vice chairman, and 440 for women vice chairman posts.

However, 28 of the total candidates were elected unopposed.

The second phase of the upazila parishad election is scheduled to be held on May 21, the third phase on May 29, and the fourth and last phase on June 5.
