Sundarbans fire brought under control: Fire Service
A fire that broke out in Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans in Bagerhat on Saturday was brought under control completely on Monday.
Dhaka’s Bangabazar Fire Service and Civil Defence official Lt. Col. Tajul Islam Chowdhury made the announcement after visiting the spot around 10:45am.
He said the fire has been brought under control with the help of all. The place will be monitored for the next two days. The forest department team will continue to sprinkle water there for the next two days.
Source said the firefighting units started working to douse the fire on Sunday morning. Police, navy, coast guard, upazila administration, forest guards and local people also joined them.
Earlier, the fire broke out in the Amurbunia area of Chandpai range of the Sundarbans East Zone at 2:45pm on Saturday.
On information, the members of forest department, fire service and police rushed to the spot but they could not start working to douse the fire as there is no water source nearby.
