4 of a family among 5 killed as truck, car collide in Habiganj

Five people, including four members of a family, were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a private car in Habiganj in the early hours of Thursday.

The accident took place on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in front of Badsha gate in Madhabpur upazila around 2am. 

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. 

Badrul Karim, Officer-in-charge of Shayestagnj Highway Police Station, said the victims were the residents of Barishal. They used to live at Savar in Dhaka and work at a garment factory. 

The accident took place when they were returning in the private car after visiting a shrine in Sylhet. When their car reached Madhabpur upazila, it collided head-on with the truck coming from opposition, leaving five people dead on the spot, the OC said.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies and brought them to the police station, the OC added.
