Tipu-Prity murder: Charges framed against 33 accused
A Dhaka court has framed charges against 33 people including Dhaka city south unit of Awami League (AL) Organizing Secretary Ashraf Talukder in the case lodged over the sensational murder of AL leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Prity in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area.
With the charge framing, the formal trial of the case started.
Judge Ali Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 framed the charge against the accused and fixed May 21 for recording the statements of the witnesses.
Earlier on June 5, 2023, the investigation officer of the case and DB police Inspector Yeasin Shikder filed the charge sheet at the court.
Dhaka city south unit of AL Organizing Secretary and several leaders of BCL, Juba League, Jatiya Party and a city corporation councillor were named, among others, in the charge sheet.
Tipu, former general secretary of Motijheel thana Awami League, was on his microbus destined for his Khilgaon home on the night of March 24 in 2022. He was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area as his vehicle got stuck in traffic.
Rickshaw passenger Samia Afran Prity was also got shot by stray bullets and died on the spot. Tipu’s driver Munna got shot in his hand in the incident.
Tipu’s wife Farhana Islam Dolly filed a murder case with Shahjahanpur Police station.
