Four get life in drug case in Narail

A court in Narail has sentenced four people to life-term imprisonment in a drug case.

The lifers are Sohel Rana, 39, from East Sonapur village in Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur, and Robiul Islam, 50, from Purbachanpara village, Sabuj Hossain, 30, and Tareque Aziz, 35, from Daitala Mor area in Sadar upazila of Jashore.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (1st Court) Muhammad Akram Hossain handed down the verdict on Thursday.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, and in default, they will have to serve two months more in prison.

Sarder Mahbubur Rahman, the additional public prosecutor of the court, said a pickup van was searched in Sadar upazila of Narail on April 18, 2014, and recovered 223 bottles of phensedyl syrup from the vehicle after questioning Sohel, Robiul and Sabuj who were traveling in.

A case was filed with Sadar Police Station in this connection under the Narcotics Control Act.

Later, police submitted a charge sheet against the three and Tareque Aziz.
