ACC starts probe against ex-IGP Benazir Ahmed
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an investigation against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed for allegedly amassing huge amount of illegal wealth.
ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yesmeen confirmed the matter to the reporters on Monday.
Khorsheda Yesmeen said the reports of amassing illegal wealth have been published against Benazir Ahmed on different print and electronic media. The ACC is taking step in this regard as per rules. After Eid vacation, the ACC gave approval to investigate the illegal wealth of the ex-IGP at its first meeting on April 18.
She said a three-member team has been formed to investigate the allegations of amassing illegal wealth against Benazir. A supervising officer has been appointed to look after the team.
However, a writ petition was filed with the High Court, pleading for its direction upon the ACC to probe allegations of corruption against Benazir Ahmed.
Supreme Court lawyer Salah Uddin Rigan filed the writ petition, saying he pleaded for court’s direction as allegations of severe corruption came recently against Benazir on newspaper reports.
