5 of a family among 13 killed as bus, pickup collide in Faridpur
Thirteen people including five members of a family were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a pickup van on Dhaka-Khulna highway in front of Tetultola Eblum Highway Restaurant at Kanaipur union in the Sadar upazila of Faridpur around 8am on Tuesday.
The identities of the five deceased of the family were identified as Rafiq Molla, 35, his wife Sumi Begum, 23, their two children Ruhan Molla, 6, Habib Molla, 3 and Rafiq’s 63-year-old mother Morzina Begum of Bejidanga village at Boalmari upazila in Faridpur.
The injured were admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur.
Police said, a bus was going to Magura from Dhaka. When the bus reached Kanaipur area, it collided head-on with a pickup van, leaving 11 people dead on the spot. On information, the members of police and fire service rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. Later, the injured were taken to the hospital where two of them died while undergoing treatment.
Asaduzzaman, Resident Physician of the hospital, told Jago News that seven injured people were admitted to the hospital and two of them died later.
Salahuddin Chowdhury, Officer-in-charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station of Faridpur, said legal action is under process in this regard.
