One of six Bhasantek gas cylinder blast victims dies
One of the six victims, hospitalised after receiving injuries in a gas cylinder explosion in Dhaka’s Bhasantek on Friday, has passed away.
Meherunnesa, who suffered 47 percent burn injuries, breathed his last at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) on Saturday morning.
On Friday, six members of a family suffered burn injuries in a gas cylinder explosion in a house at Bhasantek in Dhaka.
The injured are Md Liton, 52, his wife Surjo Banu, 40, their three children Lamia, 7, Suzon, 8, Liza, 18, and Surjo’s 65-year-old mother, Meherunnesa.
They were admitted to the SHNIBPS.
Rifat Hossain, who took them to the burn unit, said the explosion occurred after Liton lit a match to ignite a mosquito coil.
Tariqul Islam, Resident Doctor of the SHNIBPS, said Md Liton suffered 67% burns, Surjo Banu 82%, Suzon 43%, Lamia 55%, Liza 30% and Meherunnessa 47%.
