Storms, lightning strikes claim 12 lives

Storms and lightning strikes left at least 12 people dead in eight districts of the country on Sunday.

Of them, two died in Bhola, two in Patuakhali, one in Khulna, three in Jhalakathi, one in Netrakona, one in Pirojpur, one in Bagerhat, and one in Rangamati, according to the Disaster Management Department (DDM).

The Kalbaishakhi or nor’wester and thunderbolts also uprooted trees and destroyed homes in different parts of the country. 

Confirming the matter, DDM Director General Md Mijanur Rahman said this is the initial estimate. The death toll may not rise but damages caused by the disasters may increase.
