Second phase of upazila parishad polls on May 21

The Election Commission on Monday declared the schedule for the second phase of the election of 161 upazila parishads, fixing May 21 as the voting date.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal.

After the meeting, Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam announced the election schedule.

As per the schedule, the last date for submitting nomination papers is April 21, while the date for scrutinising nomination papers is April 23, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 29.

Aspirants can appeal against the selection process on April 24-26 and the appeals will be disposed of on April 27-29.

In the first phase, elections to 152 upazila parishads will be held on May 8.
