Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF on Lalmonirhat border

A Bangladeshi national was killed and two others injured when India’s Border Security Force (BSF) members opened fire along the Burirhat border at Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat early Saturday.

The incident took place near border pillar number 913/4.

The deceased was identified as Muruli Chandra, 40, son of Sushil Chandra, of Uttara Balapara village at Chandrapur union in the upazila.

The injured are Mizanur Rahman, 32, and Liton Miah, 40, son of Nur Islam of the same village.  

Source said a patrolling team of 75 BSF Battalion BSF of Chitrakot camp under Sitai Police Station in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal opened fire when 15-20 Bangladeshis, including Muruli Chandra, entered India to bring cattle. At that time, Muruli died on the spot and two other Bangladeshis were also injured. Muruli’s body was recovered and sent to Lalmonirhat Sada Hospital for autopsy.

Imtiaz Kabir, Officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, said we recovered body of a man named Muruli Chandra, who was killed after being hit by firing in the border area. A step will be taken later in this regard.
