Action to be taken if anyone of 3rd genders extorts money: DMP chief

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman has said action will be taken if anyone from the third gender community extorts money in houses, roads, and vehicles.

He said police took legal action against a person from the third gender community over a recent incident in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station area in Dhaka.

Police receive allegations of different kinds of extortions against the third genders, he said, adding that proper legal measures will be taken based on the allegations.

Habibur Rahman said this in a meeting on monthly crime review at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbag Police Lines in the capital on Saturday.

Mentioning that people first come to the police station to get service, he said the law enforcers must provide these quickly and sincerely.

Regarding traffic congestion during Ramadan, the DMP commissioner said special monitoring should be given to traffic management to resolve gridlock in the holy month.

Stating that DMP will take all kinds of legal steps to control teen gangs, he said more importance should be given to disposing of theft and snatching cases, investigating the lawsuits, seizing stolen vehicles, recovering drugs, and settling pending cases.
