5 of a family killed as pickup van, leguna collide in Sylhet

Five members of a family were killed as a pickup van collided head-on with a leguna in Sylhet on Monday.

The accident took place on Sylhet-Tamabil highway at Darbasta area in Jaintiapur upazila around 11:45am. 

The deceased were identified as Mongoli Patro, 50, daughter of Santosh Patro, Sabitri Patro, wife of Nanda Patro, Bijli, daughter of Suchita Patro, Sushmita Patro, wife of Krishna Patro and Ritu Patro, son of Sukendu Patro. 

They were the residents of Paschim Thakurer Mati village under Chiknagul union in the upazila. 

Local source said two people died and three others injured after a pickup van collided head-on with a leguna in the area. Later, the injured were taken to the hospital where doctors declared them dead.  

On information, Jaintiapur Model Police Station’s Officer-in-charge Tajul Islam and the upazila Awami League General Secretary M Liaqot Ali visited the spot.
