JnU student's suicide: Fellow students seek immediate arrests of those responsible
Fellow students of Jagannath University (JnU) student Fairuz Abontika have placed a six-point demand, including immediate the arrest of those responsible for her death by suicide.
They made the demands in a brief rally after forming a human chain and bringing out a demonstration procession on the campus on Saturday afternoon.
The demands are ensuring a fair and neutral investigation over the incident; immediate arrest of accused teacher Din Islam and student Amman Siddiqui and bringing them to justice; expelling the accused calling syndicate meeting quickly; ensuring security of the victim's family; filing a case in this connection by the university administration; and making effective the cell to monitor women repression in the university.
The protesting students gave a 12-hour ultimatum to implement the demands.
Earlier this morning, the university authorities in a statement said it suspended accused Assistant Professor Din Islam and student Amman Siddiqui. It also removed Din Islam from the proctorial body.
Fairuz Abontika, a student of the Law Department at Jagannath University, died by suicide at their home in Cumilla on Friday night.
Before her death, she had said in a Facebook post that if she ever commits suicide, her classmate Amman Siddiqui and the Assistant Proctor of the university, Din Islam, will be held responsible for her death.
In the post, she wrote, "If I ever commit suicide, my classmate Amman Siddiqui and Assistant Proctor Din Islam will only be held responsible for my death."
