SCBA polls violence: 3 assistant attorney generals suspended

Three assistant attorney generals have been suspended over violence during the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election.

They are Kazi Bashir Ahmed, Jakir Hossain Masud and Shyama Akter.

The Ministry of Law issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday.

The SCBA election was held on March 6 and 7 where a total of 5,319 lawyers cast their votes.

On March 8, the counting of ballots of the election was halted a day after voting concluded, due to violent disruptions and turmoil among the lawyers vying for positions. At least seven people were injured in the clash.

Later, Assistant Attorney General Saifur Rahman Chowdhury Saif filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station on charges of attempted to murder.

In the case, 20 people including advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi, independent candidate for the post of secretary in the Supreme Court bar election, barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, secretary candidate of BNP-Jamaat supported blue panel, were accused.
