Man gets death for killing mother

A court in Sirajganj has sentenced a man to death for strangulating his mother to death.

The condemned convict is Nahid Imran Niyon, 39.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Abul Bashar Mia delivered the verdict on Sunday.

The court also fined him Tk 50,000, said the court's assistant public prosecutor Zebunnesa (Zeba Rahman).

She said Niyon was addicted to gambling and would often demand money to his mother to repay the loan he took for gambling.

He quarreled with his mother over the matter and at one stage, he strangulated her to death on February 18, 2020.

Later, Nasim Imran Nishat, younger son of the dead, filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station.
