RAJUK seals off 12 restaurants at Dhanmondi’s Gawsia Twin Peak

The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) on Monday conducted an inspection drive at the Gawsia Twin Peak building on Satmasjid Road in the capital’s Dhanmondi and demolished a rooftop restaurant.

It also sealed off 12 restaurants inside the building and fined the “Spice and Herbs” restaurant Tk 2 lakh.

Tazina Sarwar, Executive Magistrate and Director of Zone-3 (RAJUK), said the building was approved as F-1 category for office purposes. However, for the establishment of a restaurant, it requires an F-2 approval - which the building did not have.

RAJUK also did not approve any plans that mentioned that the building would have any establishment on its rooftop, she added.

Earlier on Sunday evening, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a drive at different restaurants and detained 25 people for not having fire safety measures.

On Thursday night, forty-six people were killed after the deadly fire broke out at Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road area.
