Writ seeks directive to close restaurants in residential buildings
Forty-six people were killed after the deadly fire broke out at Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in Dhaka on Thursday night.

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking a directive to close restaurants in all residential buildings in Dhaka including Bailey Road.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the HC on Sunday.

The petitioner also sought the HC’s directive to arrest the people responsible for the fire incident at Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road and to compensate the families of the victims.

The secretaries to the Housing and Public Works Ministry, Cabinet Division, Home Ministry, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor were made respondent to the writ.

The lawyer said the writ will be presented for hearing in the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Kazi Jinat Haque.

Earlier on Thursday night, forty-six people were killed after the deadly fire broke out at Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in Dhaka. Of them, 20 were men, 18 were women, and 8 were children.
