Police detains Hasnat and Tahmid over Gulshan attack
Members of police has detained Hasnat Karim and Tahmid Hasib over Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery attack, where gunmen killed 22 people including 17 foreigners and two police officials on July 1.
Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), public relation unit said police detained Hasnat Karim, teacher of North South University, who was present at Holey Artisan Bakery during the attack and and Tahmid Hasib, student of a Canadian university, from city’s Gulshan and Basundhara area respectively on Wednesday night.
Earlier, on July 1, Dhaka witnessed one of the worst terror attacks in its history as gunmen attacked Holey Artisan Bakery, an upscale eatery on Road 79 of Gulshan killing 22 people including two police officers after a 12-hour long hostage situation.
Nine Italians, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Bangladeshi-American and one Indian were among the dead.
Thirteen hostages were rescued while six of the gunmen, who attacked the upscale eatery, were killed in a 50-minute army-led joint forces operation codenamed ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ on July 2, morning.
