3 killed as truck hits auto-rickshaw in Gazipur

Three people were killed and two others injured as a cement-laden truck crashed into a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Gazipur on Monday.

The accident occurred on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Shilabrishti Filling Station area in Kaliakair upazila around 6:30am. 

The deceased were identified as Jahidul Islam, son of Abbas Ali, Mobjel, son of Yakub Munshi and Showkot Ali, son of late Hasan Ali.

They were the inhabitants of Talabaha and Baoman villages in the upazila.

The injured - Abbas Ali and Romzan - were admitted to nearby Kumudini Hospital in Tangail.   

Shahadat Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Nawzor Highway police station, said the truck hit the auto-rickshaw in the area around 6:30am, leaving three people dead on the spot and two others injured. The truck was seized but its driver managed to flee the scene. A legal action will be taken in the incident.
